A new rest area for travelers visiting Chuncheon has opened at Chuncheon Station. On the 5th, the Gangwon Design Promotion Agency announced, “Commissioned by Chuncheon City, we have established a traveler’s rest area named ‘Chuncheon Travel Island’ in the plaza of Chuncheon Station.” The lounge was created by renovating a former luxury goods store that had been left unused. It is located to the left after exiting through Exit 1 of Chuncheon Station. Chuncheon Travel Island was designed around the theme of Chuncheon’s rivers, lakeside scenery, and its beautiful surrounding islands. With a logo inspired by islands, spatial designs for both interior and exterior, and flag-shaped signage, the space reflects a unified design identity—offering a unique experience only available in Chuncheon. Visitors to the rest area can access a variety of services, including tourist information, city tour bus guidance, and foreign tourist taxi services. Additionally, local specialty products—developed in collaboration with small local businesses—are available for purchase. Choi In-sook, President of the Gangwon Design Promotion Agency, stated: “Chuncheon Travel Island was designed as a space that offers a differentiated experience by developing a brand that reflects Chuncheon’s identity and applying it across multiple design elements. Moving forward, we aim to create space branding and design that establish and embody unique regional identities—so that Gangwon Province may serve as a leading example of high-quality public design.”
