The Gangwon Design Promotion Agency (hereinafter referred to as the Agency) announced on the 5th that it has newly established ‘Chuncheon Travel Island,’ a traveler’s lounge near Chuncheon Station. Earlier this year, the Agency, through a commissioned project by Chuncheon City, repurposed a former luxury goods building—whose operations had ceased—into Chuncheon Travel Island, a rest area for travelers near Chuncheon Station. Chuncheon Travel Island is a travel lounge brand designed with the concept of Chuncheon’s scenic rivers, lakeside landscapes, and islands. A unified design identity was applied throughout—including a logo inspired by islands, interior and exterior spatial design, and flag-shaped signage—creating a unique space only found in Chuncheon. Inside, the facility offers various services to enhance the convenience of tourists visiting Chuncheon Station, such as providing travel information, guidance on the city tour bus and foreign tourist taxi services, and opportunities to participate in events. In particular, by collaborating with local small businesses to sell a variety of regionally specialized products, the space is also expected to contribute to revitalizing the local economy. Choi In-sook, President of the Promotion Agency, stated. “Chuncheon Travel Island was planned as a space that develops a brand reflecting the identity of Chuncheon City and applies it across various design elements to offer a distinctive experience.” She added, “Moving forward, the Agency aims to continue developing space branding and design that establish and embody unique local identities—setting advanced examples of high-quality public design in the Gangwon Province.”
