Chuncheon Launches Traveler-Friendly Rest Area ‘Chuncheon Travel Island’ on the 21st

[Cheonji Ilbo = Choi Chi-seon, Travel Correspondent]

Chuncheon City announced that it will begin operating a traveler-tailored rest space, ‘Chuncheon Travel Island,’ in front of Chuncheon Station on the Gyeongchun Line starting April 21. This newly introduced space is a remodeled version of the former luxury goods center, which ceased operations last year, and is intended to provide a comfortable resting place for travelers. Travel Island was designed using motifs from Chuncheon’s representative island tourist destinations such as Nami Island, Hajungdo, Sangjungdo, Goguma Island, and Bungeo Island. It also functions as a space that highlights Chuncheon’s image as a lakeside city and emphasizes its new tourism brand as a “City of Islands.” The front of the space features floor-to-ceiling glass walls to enhance openness and create a welcoming, easily accessible resting area for all. In particular, a tourism information desk will be staffed to provide guidance, and screens will vividly introduce Chuncheon’s main attractions. Large posters, maps of tourist sites, and books will be made available so visitors can easily access information about local attractions and festivals. In addition, a trust-based rental service offering umbrellas and raincoats will be provided to help visitors cope with sudden changes in weather. Travel Island will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., except on the days of Chuseok and Lunar New Year. Kim Si-eon, Director of the Tourism Policy Division, stated, “We aim to make the newly launched Travel Island a special space where people can experience the unique charm of the region.”
